Back when the {Story} began...

Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know, we spent Summer 2009 in Jinotepe, Nicaragua at Quinta Esperanza serving teens, children, and American Missions teams. Throughout that time we were also praying over God’s plans for our future, whether to attend a Master’s program in the U.S. or to set out on a different path. As we prayed and asked God to give us direction, He laid firmly upon our hearts His desire for us to return to Nicaragua and use the gifts He’s provided us in networking, discipleship, and leadership. Upon prayer-led confirmation from missionaries working with us, we decided to return for a 2 year commitment, this time to Granada, Nicaragua.

As we learned last summer, God has plans far greater than our preconceptions of what He desires and has purposed for us. We have learned the value of prayerfully pursuing God’s plans for us before committing to tasks that we feel are important. Thus, we have some ideas of the work that we will be doing in Nicaragua, but we will be spending the first few weeks serving wherever possible while being diligent in seeking God’s specific plans for our time. Currently, we have felt led toward connecting missions teams’ hearts for ministry with the needs of the people in Granada.  Our other main focus will be building relationships within the community in order to disciple and serve effectively.

Now, after one year of serving here in Granada, we are fully confident in God's plans for bringing us here at the end of 2009. We have seen great praises and have most definitely witnessed those plans that he planted in our hearts before leaving for Nicaragua in 2010. We have grown in so many ways, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally and have learned the true meaning of service.

Your prayers for direction, safety, and strong relationships with those we serve are more than needed. We appreciate each one of you who has played a part in leading our lives to this point, and we are excited to remind you that our work for the Lord is far from finished. Please keep your eye on our "Prayer Wall," located at the top of our blog. We greatly appreciate all of our prayer warriors, and we hope to be a great encouragement to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ as we see God at work in answering our prayers.

We have been so blessed to see God generously provide that it's made us wonder just what he may have in store. Before we left in October 2010, we were over fully funded and blessed at seeing God provide so quickly. However, some of our monthly supporters are now unable to support us, but we are trusting God in His provision and know that He plans to complete the good work he's begun in us here. If you also feel led to support this plan of his financially with a single gift or a monthly pledge, please see the support options listed below.

Thank you for your prayers and support; we are so grateful to have you. We look forward to sharing with you all in this adventure that will be happening in Nicaragua over the next two years!
Love,

Don & Jacque Straka
